Built on passion. Driven by family. Crafted with expertise.

Behind every vehicle we repair is a story, and behind The PDR Specialist is one of passion, perseverance, family and a lifelong commitment to mastering the craft.

The PDR Specialist is a proudly family-owned business, founded by Robert Arundell. What began as one man’s passion for restoring vehicles has grown into a business built on skill, integrity and a genuine desire to help people get back on the road with confidence.

Our story officially began when The PDR Specialist was registered on 26 January 2022. After years of experience and preparation, we opened our doors on 1 November 2023 from our first premises at 12A Ormond Street, Pietermaritzburg, where we rented our space and took our first steps as a business.

In June 2024, we reached a milestone that meant so much to us — we purchased our own premises at 1 Laurel Crescent, Merrivale, which is proudly home to The PDR Specialist today.

 Where It All Began

At the heart of our story is Robert Arundell, whose journey in the automotive repair industry began at just 21 years old.

Robert started his career in spray painting, learning the foundations of the trade while working alongside his father. It was during these early years that he developed an appreciation for the skill, patience and precision required to transform damaged vehicles.

Then he discovered Paintless Dent Repair (PDR).

At first, even his father questioned whether Robert had the patience required to master such ameticulous craft, but Robert was determined. What started as a challenge quickly became a passion —and eventually, a lifelong career.

Over the years, Robert travelled extensively, both locally and internationally, gaining experience in some of the most demanding PDR environments, including hail repair. Every job brought a new challenge. Every technician he worked alongside brought something new to learn and many of the people he met along the way became lifelong friends.

It was through these experiences that Robert developed not only his technical expertise, but also the ability to think differently, adapt quickly and find solutions where others might simply see damage, because PDR is more than repairing a dent — it is an art that requires patience, precision, problem-solving and an understanding of how a vehicle is built.

More Than Just a Repair Shop

The automotive repair industry is constantly evolving, and so are we. Our philosophy has always been simple: never stop learning, never stop improving and never compromise on quality.

PDR is where our journey began. It is the foundation of our business, a craft that Robert has spent years mastering, and the inspiration behind the name The PDR Specialist. But as our skills, experience and business have grown, so has the scope of what we offer.

Today, The PDR Specialist is a fully-fledged auto body repair business, providing professional panel beating and spray painting services alongside our specialist PDR expertise. A Family Business With a Personal Touch

For us, The PDR Specialist is about more than cars.

It is about family, relationships and people.

As a family-owned business, we understand the importance of trust. Your vehicle is often one of your most valuable possessions, and when it is damaged, you want to know that it is in capable hands. That is why we treat every vehicle that comes through our doors with the same care and attention to detail that we would give our own. From our humble beginnings in a rented workshop in Pietermaritzburg to owning our own premises in Merrivale, the journey has been built one customer, one vehicle and one challenge at a time. We are incredibly proud of how far we have come — but we are even more excited about where we are going. This is our story. This is our family. This is The PDR Specialist. And we look forward to welcoming you to our workshop and becoming the people you know you can trust when your vehicle needs a little care.
